Especially with the Georgia heat and high allergen levels, skin conditions are a common problem seen at Animal Medical Care. Skin conditions can result from a variety of disorders and can be tricky to diagnose. At AMC, our first priority is to get to the bottom of your pet’s skin condition so that we can hopefully treat the underlying cause – rather than just alleviating the symptoms.
Allergies are common in pets and, just as with people, can be triggered at any time and result in a number of different symptoms, including itchy skin, sneezing and runny eyes, and constant licking. Frequent allergens in pets include food, fleas, medications, grass and weeds, and mold.
Yeast infections are also common in pets and many of the symptoms can mimic those of allergies. Other skin conditions include bacterial infections, mange, and skin cancer. If your pet frequently scratches; licks his or her fur and/or paws; or has dry, flaky, or irritated skin, contact AMC so that we can find a solution and relieve your pet’s discomfort.
